Old Gs return to Kent 1 league action this weekend with a huge local derby vs Vigo. Fixtures between the two sides are always highly competitive with both clubs looking to claim local bragging rights. Old Gs know that they will need to produce an excellent performance to topple their old adversaries. To add extra flavour to the contest, Old Gs know that a win will see them leapfrog Vigo in the table and climb into the upper echelons of Kent 1.
Vigo though are not to be underestimated and have thus far had a good season themselves, pulling victory from the jaws of defeat on numerous occassions. Old Gs will need to ensure that they put in a performance for the full 80 mins to ensure that they come away with the victory. Both sides will hope though that the remnants of Storm Brian, expected to sweep across North Kent on Saturday afternoon, do not create overly challenging conditions to reduce the spectacle on show.
In regards to selection the Old Gs squad is still blighted by the injury issues that have disrupted the start to their season with at least 10 players that would be in consideration still on the treatment table and unavailable for selection, with prop Eric Roye and centre Mike Hodge the latest to join this list. However they still put out a strong squad, highlighting the strength in depth that the club is slowly developing under the watch of head coach Andy Miller.
Lewis Moss, Kevin Spain and Brett Buckingham start in the front row, with Old Gs happy couple Frazer Barnes and Andy Morris reunited in the engine room of the 2nd row. Andy Kidd returns on the flank where he is accompanied in the back row by Phil Costley and number 8 Jack Nash.
Doug Wilson is at scrum half, with Matt Holdstock returning to the 10 shirt. Dave Boyer comes into inside centre with Greg Humphreys outside him at 13. Old Gs rhino, Matt Wilson, returns on the wing, with flyer James Hood and full back Chris Johnson completing the back 3.
The bench sees a rare squad apperance for Tom Marshall, with Chris Bassett and Ryan Lockyer also looking to make an impact in the later exhanges of the game.
Kicks off is at 3pm - following the club VP lunch. All support is welcome to roar on the Old Boys in the local derby!
