Petersfield were originally slated to play Trojans in the Cup at home on the 18th November and in the League away at Trojans on the following weekend. However, rather than double up the effort, both teams agreed to nominate the fixture on the 25th November as a 'double-header' with the venue at Penns Place. The match result will therefore count as the result for both competitions.
On paper, Trojans look like favourites for the match; for some while they were challenging for the top three places in the LSW3 League but have dropped off the pace slightly and now look to be in a battle for 4/5 with Battersea Ironsides. (Old Emanuel, Old Cranleighans and Pompey now seemingly settled to fight for the top spot.)
Field, meanwhile will have been buoyed by their win over Basingstoke last time out - not just the margin of victory, but the sublime nature of some of their play. If Field can start Saturday's game with the high levels of intensity that was evident at the start of the season whilst maintaining the elements of play that were such a joy to watch against Basingstoke, they may well pull off a terrific win.
With Teddington and Old Tiffinians likely to turn over their opponents on Saturday, (Basinstoke and Weybridge respectively), a win would not dramatically alter Field's standing in the league, but it would put further clear water between them and 9th-placed Warlingham and send out a clear message that they intend to stay in the League.
Coming into the fixture, Trojans appear to have an impressive record with wins on the road in all four of their matches to-date. However, three of these have been against the lowest three teams in the league. The statistics would also suggest that their defence doesn't travel well - on average they have conceded nearly 20-points to the home side and, in their last away game, allowed Basingstoke to score four tries securing the bottom sitters their only point so far in the league. The flip side of this is, of course, their average scoring record away from home of 34-points.
