First Victory Of The Season

Wow what a game to win and credit to both sides. Ellistown And Ibstock Utd progressed to the 2nd round of the Challenge Cup with a 3-2 Penalty shoot out win after a 3-3 draw.

In the best match seen at Terrace Road for some time, both sides from the opening whistle went on the attack and only great goalkeeping and the woodwork kept the score at 0-0 for 37 mins.

Birstall took the lead on 37 mins when Wayne Slawson slotted the ball into an empty net.

EIBS 0-1 BU 37 mins

Ellistown and Ibstock roared back and deservedly equalised on 44 mins when Umar Husain slide in to tap in a rebound from a goalkeeper fumble.

EIBS 1-1 BU 44 mins

Unmar's goal send both sides in level at half time.

A cracking 2nd half was 7 minutes old when Wayne Slawson scored his 2nd with a neat lob over Simon Dye.

EIBS 1-2 BU 52 mins

Again we roared back and Luke Taylor equalised on 75 mins with a cool finish from inside the box.

EIBS 2-2 BU 75 mins

Our hearts were broken on 80 mins when Lewis Dodd slotted home a controversial penalty to put Birstall in the lead for the 3rd and final time.

EIBS 2-3 BU 80 mins

As the clock ticked over to full time, we equalised for the 3rd time when the Birstall central defender scored an own goal trying to clear a cross.

EIBS 3-3 BU 90 mins

The own goal took the game into extra-time.

EIBS 3-3 BU 90 mins

We started extra time with our tails up and looked the stronger team but our cause was made near impossible on 98 mins when Simon Dye received a straight red for fouling the Birstall centre forward as it was running into the box. Was it a foul or did the centre forward fall over?

Morgan Keeling took over in the goal and could he be our hero. Read on to find out.

There was no further scoring in extra-time, therefore the game went to the lottery of penalties.

Who could hold their nerve.........

The penalties went like this.
