Ellistown FC fell at the 1st hurdle in the county cup as they bowed out via lottery of penalties against Blaby And Whetstone.
With a decent crowd in attendance to celebrate the clubs' new floodlights, the game was a tight affair with Blaby winning the first half 1-0 through an Ollie Hart goal on 32 mins and Town winning the second half 1-0 through a well-deserved goal for Ollie Evans.
Credit to Town's man of the match Max Alford who saved a 2nd half Blaby pen. This follows a penalty save in the previous game. This lad is building a reputation in the game as being a fine goalkeeper and he is only 17.
1-1 at full time and with no extra time, it was straight to penalties, and it was Blaby who took the spoils 4-3 and move into the next round.
Summary
With well-publicised off the field events impacting the club over the last month (sometime social media is not your friend!!!), it was a credit to our young team they were able to focus on the game and put in a gritty performance that shows promise for the future.
Good luck to Blaby in the next round.
With the off fields events resolved and a Step 6 ground with the best sets of lights in the region, we now focus on the football starting with the league game on Saturday away to Blaby & Whetstone. Hopefully, we can go one better.
Credit also goes to our committee and volunteers who put in a fantastic effort looking after the large crowd.
Thank you to those who also mentioned how good the place is looking and what an impressive set of lights.
