Town hit rock bottom

A tough match report to write as Town put in one of their worst performances of the season to hand Highfield Rangers a well-deserved victory.

So will start on a positive. Step forward 16 year old Goalkeeper Austin Parish who yet again put in a superb goalkeeping performance. Without him, Highfield would have won by 7 instead of the 2 they scored. It's not easy stepping into a struggling side and especially so at a young age.

He is getting better every game he plays and backs up our strategy of playing youth to give them vital minutes in a no pressure environment (we are not getting promoted or relegated this season). Our hope is that Austin continues his football education with us for a number of seasons before he is picked up by a step 4 or higher club. Well done Austin we are proud of you.

As for the game, Highfield wanted it more then Ellistown and played with more heart and should have been well out of site before against the run of play on 44 mins, Keiron Tompkins scored a worldie for Ellistown finishing off a superb solo run with a well-placed shot. Take a bow Keiron, for a great goal.

EFC 1-0 HR 44 mins

The goal was that good, town were still celebrating when Highfield kicked off and went straight down the other end to equalize!!!!

EFC 1-1 HR 45 mins

The home faithful were stunned but not surprised considering the season we are having.

I suspect with a manager rocket at half-time, town came out for the second half and started to play football but the final ball let us down as Highfield simply waited for the mistake, regained position and quickly moved into attack mode where they faced Austin.

As the 2nd half wore on, Highfield wrestled back control and took the lead on 75 mins when another through ball this time caught out the defence and Yankuba Camara finally beat Austin to give Rangers the lead.

EFC 1-2 HR 75 mins

For the last 15 minutes we huffed and puffed and came close to equalizing a couple of times when Adam Ward had a shot kicked off the line and with the last kick of the game, Marley Spencer had a clear line to goal but hit a weak shot that was gathered by the Highfield keeper.

In truth, it would have been hard on Highfield if Town had managed to get the point and they deserved the 3 points.

A poor performance from Town but another 90 mins in the tank for the youth who are learning every game and are in good shape for next season. For the rest of the side, bring your heart next Saturday at home v Hathern and play for the shirt. You’re better than the league position suggests you are.

Well done Highfield Rangers and the Officials who had a good game.
