Beaten By The Weather And A Good Holbrook Side

Yet again, credit to the Groundsman and volunteers who ensured the pitch was playable.

Holbrook Sports claimed the spoils 4-1 in a game played in driving rain and freezing temperatures.

With the wind behind them Holbrook started the game on the attack and only great defending and the crossbar stopped them from taking the lead before they did on 15 minutes when Matthew Harris tapped in a rebound from a great save from our goalkeeper.

The 2nd goal followed on 25 minutes when Jermaine Palmer scored. I was retrieving a ball so can't confirm how the goal was scored.

We had our chances and should have pulled a goal back before Niall Mather made it 0-3 on 33 minutes with a free header.

To our credit, it would have been easy to throw in the towel but we fought like tigers to stay in the game.

For the rest of the half it was attack v defence and defence won to leave the half time score.

Could we take advantage of the wind in the 2nd half. The answer was no as the wind disappeared and we were left with freezing conditions.

The 2nd half started in the same pattern as the 1st and Holbrook made it 4-0 after 50 minutes when Matthew Harris scored his 2nd of the afternoon with a low shot from inside the penalty box.

At this point, the game changed and we took control and started playing like a team with confidence and got our rewards on 70 mins when a Jair Cabral goalbound shot was turned in by a defender.

4-1 down with 20 mins to go, we went on the attack and had a number of promising situations to score further goals but a tendency to pass rather then shoot let us down.

This left the final score

Ellistown & Ibstock Utd 1 - 4 Holbrook Sports

A disappointing 50 minutes then a great last 40 mins sums up our season. The linesman commented that we are not far away from becoming a winning team.

This defeat left us in 18th position with 10pts from 17 games. We are 7pts above Greenwood Meadows and only 1pt behind Holwell Sports and Barrow Town, so come on lads lets get 3pts next week when we play Kimberley Miners Welfare at home.
