Best Performance Of The Season Roared On By The Village Idiots

Best performance of the season ensured Ellistown and Ibstock came away with all 3 points with a 2-1 victory against Anstey Nomads.

Cheered on by EIBS supporters club known as the village idiots, hopes were high that our improving form would result in 3 points against a top ten side.

The start had us hoping we could keep the score down as Anstey swarmed all over EIBS and should have been 2 or 3 up after 10 minutes.

We rode our luck during the early stages and then the tide turned as we grew in confidence and started to dominate play.

Our crisp passing was cutting Anstey apart and we had enough chances to take the lead.

At this point, you know what happens next.

On 35 minutes, a cross from the right was punched away by our goalkeeper, the ball was picked up on the left and a floated cross back in the box left Joe Hartopp with a simple header from 5 yards to make it.

EIBS 0-1 AN 35 minutes.

It was important we battled to ensure our defence were not beached again before half-time and while we had some heart in mouth moments, we saw out the half to make the half-time score.

EIB 0-1 AN

Key moment of the 2nd half came straight from the kick off as Anstey went on the attack and only a world class save from our goalkeeper who dived full length stopped Anstey scoring the 2nd.

After this, EIBs took control of the game and you could sense this was a game we could win.

Our impressive passing game got it's reward on 55 mins when new signing Jacob Wood scored a goal of season contender with an excellent curling shot from 25 yards that gave the goalkeeper no chance.

The village idiots celebrated widely as we watched the ball fly into the net.

Could we go on and win the game that our play deserved.

On 62 mins, we gave ourselves a great chance when Ross McGarry run at goal and took on and beat half of the Anstey defence and placed a low shot beyond the goalkeeper. Sorry Jacob, this is our goal of the season

Ross goal was on a par with Ricky Villa goal in the 81 cup final, or Zola's goal against West Ham in 96 or Paulo Wanchope's goal for Derby v Man Utd. Even Messi would have been impressed.

The village idiots were going mad, as we sensed a 5th victory of the season and it took some words of wisdom from our bench to calm us down.

The game now went end to end and the standard of play from both sides was excellent but EIBS looked more dangerous.

We could and should have scored more, while Anstey looking dangerous could not break down us down.

The last 10 minutes saw EIBS play a streetwise game of football as we run the clock down at every opportunity and this frustrated Anstey into mistakes that played into our hands.

The final minutes were played out in our penalty box but we held firm and at the final whistle fully deserved a final score of.

Well done lads, this is the performance we have been waiting for all season.

We played our best football of the season and scored 2 excellent goals that would have graced the champions league.

The team is playing with confidence and we are playing like a well drilled unit.

Enjoy the victory lads, you deserve it.

The victory still leaves us in 18th place on 18 points from 26 games. We are 15 points above Greenwood Meadows and 4 points behind Arnold Town.

We travel to Gedling Miners Welfare on Saturday with a good chance of picking up 3 points.
