We gave it a real good go

A spirited performance from the lads ended with a 2-0 defeat against champion chasing St Andrews.

This was always going to be a difficult game and we should be proud of the lads as they scrapped and fought for 90 mins and were unlucky not to take a point from today's game.

As expected St Andrews dominated play from the opening whistle and it was clear they were expecting an easy ride as they continually over played around our penalty box.

They slowly realised they were in a game as like last week we fought like tigers in defence and looked dangerous in attack.

St Andrew took the lead on 13 minutes when some neat one touch passing sent Callum Earls through on goal and he made no mistake.

After the goal we started to have more play and started to break with pace but our final ball was letting us down.

You could see our self belief returning and we were growing in confidence as St Andrews missed chances.

One of these breaks left Ros Mcgarry with a run on goal and his fine shot resulted in a great save from the St Andrews goalkeeper.

St Andrews were getting frustrated and this played into our hands and both teams were happy to reach half-time.

The 2nd half followed the same pattern as the 1st with St Andrews unable to find the killer 2nd while we looked dangerous on the counter.

You could sense fear in the home crowd and growing confidence in the away fans that we would get back into the game as St Andrews run out of ideas.

Our wing play was impressive as we drove forward at speed and some great defending and superb goalkeeping ensured this was a great team effort.

Then something strange happened in the closing minutes. You could hear a loud roar in the distance as Chelsea scored at Southampton to make to 2-1 to the blues. Ok, it came from the King Power as Leicester scored a last minute winner.

St Andrews also used the last minute to finally put the game to bed when Eliot Putman scored direct from a free kick to make it.

Soon after the final whistle went to make the final score.

Summary

Well done lads, we rode our luck and no one would have complained if we had come away with a point.

We are in good shape and proves we have turned a corner and will start picking up wins to pull us away from the relegation zone.

This defeat keeps us in 18th place on 15 points from 25 games. We are twelve points above Greenwood Meadows and 5 points behind Holwell Sports.

We travel to Stapenhill next week with a good chance of picking up 3 points.
