Match Report

A tight game saw Stapenhill FC win by the odd goal in 5.

A changed Ellistown and Ibstock (EIBS) side were looking to add to an impressive recent set of performances and results against a well drilled Stapenhill FC side.

It was an impressive start by our visitors but good defending and great Goalkeeping kept them out.

We took the lead after 6 mins when Umar Hussain fired home from 20 yards. A quality goal from our striker.

This gave us the confidence to go toe to toe with our visitors and both teams were looking dangerous in attack. Credit to the team who defended in numbers and broke well.

We contained Stapenhill for remainder of the half to make the half time score.

EIBS 1-0 SFC

An action packed 2nd half started in controversial circumstances when as last man our defender made a great tackle outside of the box only for the referee to give a penalty.

Paul Furniss stepped up and sent our goalkeeper the wrong way to make it 1-1 after 49 minutes.

Both teams regrouped and the game went end to end with Stapenhill looking more threatening as we began to tire.

Credit to our Goalkeeper who made some fantastic saves and the players who chased and give Stapenhill no time on the ball.

We got our awards on 70 mins when a breakaway resulted in Connor O'Grady running at a back tracking defence, with the EIBS fans shouting "shoot", Conner let fly from 25 yards and the ball whizzed into the left hand bottom corner of the goal.

2-1 with 20 minutes to go.

We were now under the cosh but comfortable in defence and continued to threaten on the brake.

Could we hang on for a hard fought win, unfortunately the answer was no as on 86 mins Alex Britton equalised after a superb save from our goalie left Alex is a simple tap in from the rebound.

2-2 with 4 mins to go.

Could we hang on for a hard fought draw, unfortunately the answer was no as on 89 mins Lewis Campbell with a good finish from 18 yards put Stapenhill in the lead.

2-3 with no time to go.

We had no time to respond and the final whistle blew to make the final score

Ellistown And Ibstock 2 Stapenhill FC 3

Summary

A great game of football between two evenly matched sides. Lads gave it everything and on a different day would be celebrating the 3 pts.

This result left us in 18th position and Stapenhill in 13th. We now move onto the re-arranged away Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup tie v Borrowash Victoria on Wednesday 4th November. Lets hope Borrowash have enough 10ps for the meter this time.
