After beating step 6 Eccleshall last week in the FA Vase, Ellistown FC were favourites to pick up 3 league points against FC GNG.
Ellistown started the game on the front foot and it was no surprise when Jordan Hamill headed us into the lead from a corner on 12 mins.
EFC 1-0 GNG 12 mins
We should have doubled our lead on 25 mins but could not convert from the penalty spot but no worries the team thought as it was all one way traffic.
GNG could not cope with us but we could not score the 2nd goal and that is were our problems start.
We were over-playing and stopped playing the simple ball. This allowed GNG back into the game and they should have equalised on 35 mins when faced with a one on one, Julian Waho made a brave save.
We went into half-time with the score.
EFC 1-0 GNG
The fact we could not score that second goal sent the team into a panic as they tried to force the pace. This played into GNG hands as they soaked up the pressure and in a rare venture forward equalised on 60 mins with another header this time from Medosan Siva.
EFC 1-1 GNG 60 mins
Provided we don't panic then there was enough time to get the winning goal as GNG were content to sit on the 1-1.
Our young side now had to out think our opponents and that was a step to far as we could not break GNG down and fashion any clear cut chances.
The game fizzled out and ended.
EFC 1-1 GNG FT
Summary
Our young side learned a valuable lesson today in not under estimating opponents. I sense for there development, this was a good draw.
