This game was a carbon copy of last week's game v Asfordby, except it was Ellistown on the receiving end of a crushing defeat.
We knew Thurnby would be a tough game but from the off we were never at the races and let the home team take control from the 1st minute.
It was therefore a surprise when Town took the lead on 5 minutes when a poor Goalkeeper clearance allowed Isaac Lakin the simple task of looping the ball back into an empty net from 20 yards.
TR 0 - 1 EFC 5mins
Thurnby then tore into town whose overrun Midfield could not cope with the onslaught and goals from Shaun Barker (10 & 17 mins) and Josh Gascoine (12 mins) put the game to bed within the 1st 17 minutes.
TR 3-1 EFC 17 mins
Only poor finishing and great goalkeeping from Warwick Miller stopped Thurnby running up a cricket score by half-time.
This was by some way our poorest performance of the season.
We dragged ourselves off the pitch at half-time glad to be only 3-1 down at HT.
TH 3-1 EFC HT
We started the 2nd half well and seemed to have learnt the lessons from the 1st half as we tighten up at the back, started to win midfield and give Thurnby's defense some worrying movements as we started to run at them.
Frustrating for us, we could not score and as the half wore on, Thurnby were starting to pick us off on the break and therefore it was no surprise, Town were hit by the sucker punch and further goals by Samuel Nicolello (65 mins), Joe Geary (71 mins) and Jake Limbert (89 mins) gave Thurnby the 6-1 victory that confirmed the gap between the sides.
TH 6-1 EFC FT
Thurnby are league leaders and its easy to see why as they have the complete package on the pitch. We are not to far behind and know what we need to do and we will do it. Luckily we don't play Thurnby again and wish them well for the season.
