All ended with Smalley's all round

A great game of football that had everything ended with Town taking the 3 pts with a close 3-2 victory over Cottesmore.

Star's of the show were 17 year old Kai Smalley and 22 year old Brendon Lee.

A young Ellistown side started the game well and out-played Cottesmore for the first 20 minutes but could not put the ball in the net. Cottesmore were dangerous on the break and based on clear cut chances should have been ahead before Kai Smalley tapped into an empty net on 22 minutes to score his first goal for Town, this after great wing play from Aaron Windram and superb passing from Jake Mcloughlin in the build up to the goal.

Town were now in total control and playing their best football of the season. With 17 year old's Isaac Lakin bossing midfield and Adam Poxon controlling the defence.

Up front 20 year old Zak Adams and 17 year old Kai Smalley were causing all kinds of problems and it was no surprise when Kai scored his 2nd on 41 minutes when he back headed a corner into the net.

EFC 2-0 CA 41 mins

Our young chargers walked off the pitch at half-time feeling seven feet tall with the score of.

The 2nd half was only 5 minutes old when the game changed as during a brave save, Warwick Miller took a nasty kick on the knee from a sliding Cottesmore attacker. It was clear Warwick could not continue and with no sub keeper on the bench, Brendon Lee stepped up and went in goal.

This gave Cottesmore a lift as we changed shape to a more defensive 4-6-1 to protect the lead.

This turned out to be a master stroke from our Manager, Lee Windram as Cottesmore struggled to break us down and we threaten on the break.

Cottesmore got back in the game on 65 mins when Tom Beadle slotted home.

EFC 2-1 CA 65 mins

Town's team spirit shown through as every player worked for each other to defend our lead. Special credit goes to Brendon Lee who played like Gordon Banks as he controlled his penalty area and saved everything Cottesmore threw at him.

Zak Adams should have made the game safe on 82 minute when presented with an one on one, hit the post as he was forced wide.

Zak made up for the miss 3 minutes later as presented with a carbon copy chance, he slotted the ball home off the post.

EFC 3-1 CA 85 mins

Cottesmore then scored straight from the kick-off through Harry Standard to make it a nervy last 5 mins.

EFC 3-2 CA 85 mins

With Brendon in goal, we needed not to worry, even when with the last kick of the game, Cottesmore were presented with a free kick 20 yards out.

Cottesmore took the kick that was heading for the bottom left hand corner of the goal and 3-3 when Brendon superbly got down to save and ensured it was town celebrating at the final whistle.

Another superb performance from our young team who had to dig in and play like seasoned professionals to see off a Cottesmore side who just would not go away.

Well done guys, enjoy your weekend and let's give step 6 Melton Town a fright on Tuesday in the Jelson Senior Cup.
