No easy games in the Senior League

Well played Kirby Muxloe Reserves. You proved there are no easy games in this league as you battled to a deserved point against a heavy legged Ellistown FC.

It was no surprise that Tuesday's game v Melton Town took a lot out of the lads and it's a credit to these lads as they put in another shift today.

Ellistown continued a worrying trend of starting slowly and Kirby should have been ahead within the 1st minute as they missed a guilt edged chance.

Town showed they could play on 4 mins when a sweeping move down the left, saw Zak Adams cut into the box and coolly finish with a cross shot.

EFC 1-0 KMR 4 mins

With Town content to defend the lead and Kirby missing chance after chance, it was a quality 25 yard finish from Jake Mcloughlin that doubled our lead on 20 mins.

EFC 2-0 KMR 20 mins

Did Kirby's heads drop, no as they continued to press Ellistown who were struggling to play their normal passing game.

That saying, we looked dangerous in attack and would have been disappointed not to go into half-time more then 2 goals to the good, while Kirby knew a goal would change everything.

EFC 2-0 KMR HT

The 2nd half followed same pattern as the first as a tired Ellistown contained a Kirby side with nothing to lose.

Kirby finally managed to get back in the game on 67 minutes when Will Hopkins headed in from close range.

EFC 2-1 KMR 67 mins

That goal sparked Town into life but with Kirby's goalkeeper Ashley Marsden in world class form, we could not get the third.

This would cost us dear, as on 80 mins, a through ball went through our defence and let Jake Thompson in on goal who give Warwick Miller no chance as he scored with a low shot.

EFC 2-2 KMR 80 mins

Credit to a town side now out on it's feet, as we managed to find some energy and give it one last go and were rewarded on 85 mins when Owain Parker spun in the penalty box and found himself the meat in a sandwich. Penalty given and could Zak Adams make it count.

Up stepped Zak and nothing wrong with the penalty but the save from Ashley Marsden was world class as he tipped the ball onto the bar and Kirby cleared.

You knew then that was the big chance and while both teams huffed and puffed there were no further scares as the final whistle went with the final score of.

EFC 2-2 KMR

Summary

A frustrating result and credit to Kirby who are not a bottom 2 team. After Tuesday and with players carrying knocks it was a credit to Ellistown that we continued for 90 mins and never threw in the towel.

We now have a 2 week well deserved break to re-charge the batteries.
