On a freezing Saturday afternoon, FC GNG showed why they are in the running for the championship as 3 shots and 3 goals were good enough for a battling Ellistown side who proved there is not a lot of difference between top and bottom.
Nothing could separate the sides for the 1st twenty minutes, therefore it was disappointing for town they let GNG's Reece Morris waltz through the defence to put GNG in the lead.
EFC 0-1 GNG 20 mins
We knew getting back into the game would be hard but we never up and while we were not creating chances, we were beginning to dominate play.
The crucial next goal came on the stroke of half-time when a GNG counter-attack allowed Mat Baird a run on goal and he shot across Alex Egan to score with an assist from the post.
EFC 0-2 GNG 45 mins and HT
With the wind in our favour, Town knew a quick goal in the second half would make the game interesting but credit to GNG they sucked the life out of the game and were content to enter into an arm wrestle that ultimately they would win as Town tired.
Town huffed and puffed but could not break the GNG door down and for the final 20 minutes, it was GNG who looked more likely to score.
They completed the scoring on 75 mins when player of the match James Ireland curled in the 3rd.
EFC 0-3 GNG 75 mins
The game finished with both teams looking out for other scores.
EFC 0-3 GNG FT
Summary
With Friar Lane and Ashforby losing, this was a free game for Town and they can take credit in the way they pushed GNG all the way.
It's tight at the top and it's tight at the bottom.
Next week GNG are hoping Town will do them a favour by getting a result v Rugby.
