This match report was written after Saffron have played their last game of the season. Therefore everyone at Ellistown FC sends our congratulations to Saffron Dynamo on finishing runners up in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division and therefore guaranteeing promotion to step 6 of the non-league pyramid.
A tight game saw Saffron score the vital goal and hang on to a vital 1-0 victory.
With this being Ellistown's last game of the season, it would have been easy to put out the beach towels and cruise to the close season.
Not this team, who matched Saffron and with a little bit more luck in front of goal would have caused a major upset.
Every member of the squad should be proud of themselves for not just this performance but the last 4 games of the season when we have shown in-form, title chasing teams we are a young improving team.
We finish the season in 12th and the challenge now is for this team is to stay together and build on what we have which is a fantastic team ethic led by Captain Marvel Chris Nettles, play anywhere Arron Windram and supported by Declan Grewcock and Adam Poxon at the heart of the defence and Brendon Lee and friends at full-back.
Talking about the defence, lets look at the goalkeepers.
Sam Boschi after a difficult start is now showing us why he played at a decent non-league level in Italy, Warwick Miller entertained us with his brilliant saves and conversations with opposing referees. While Alex Egner used the experience with us to go back to Oadby as a number 1.
In front of the defence we have flying wingers Dan Martin and Andy Reed, who worked with central midfield generals, Chris Nettles, Isaac Lakin, Jake Mcloughlin. Best wishes go to Isaac who starts his University adventure.
These guy where backed up by Harry Hayden, Ash Farmer, Luke Croshaw, Ashley Hensall and Mason Penny who made the defensive midfielder position his own.
Up front, Zak Adams 14 goals up to middle of the season were vital then Kai Smalley took over the goalscoring duties. Kai finished the season on 10 Goals and now moves over to the USA to continue his football career.
At the back end of the season, Kai and Adam Gretton\Ethan Hulley were clicking up front and for them the season finished to early.
