An Ellistown team missing 8 players through injury and other commitments and having to play 2 players who were carrying injuries put up a brave show against unbeaten Friar Lane & Epworth who run out comfortable 4-0 winners.
With Mason Penny making his 1st start of the season in a much changed defence, it was a credit to town that it took Friar Lane 36 minutes to break the door down when Josh Gunn headed home.
Up to that point, we had dealt with everything that Friar Lane threw at us and we looked dangerous on the attack.
At 1-0 we were in the game, 2-0 down and the game was over, therefore it was disappointing to concede the 2nd on the stroke of half-time through an own goal.
FL 2-0 EFC HT
Friar Lane dictated the 2nd half as our boys tired and it was no surprise Lane doubled the lead through Ryan Charles on 60 mins and Macauley Parnell on 90 mins.
FL 4-0 EFC 90 mins
The 4th was harsh on town but football can be harsh.
FL 4-0 EFC FT
Summary
Full credit to Friar Lane & Epworth who deserved the win and are having a great season. They are a top club who look after you. I recommend the post match curry.
For Town, we have learnt in the last week that it is a fine line between being a top team and a chaser.
At the moment, we are a chaser but with a little of luck and some tweaks we will be a top team. It's important our players remember this as they have a big part to play in our future.
Also our new 1st team kit is the bees knees.
