A Jake Mcloughlin 40 yard special was not enough for Town who were brushed aside by an in-form Asfordby on the 3g at Charnwood Forest.
As the score suggests, Asfordby were the best side but Town were in the game up to the 80th min when 3 late goals sunk us.
On a bitterly cold afternoon on the 3g, made worse by a delayed kick-off, town could not match an in form Asfordby who are currently playing with a lot of confidence and are in the middle of an undefeated run.
In contrast, town are in the middle of a poor run of successive defeats and it's a credit to the lads they chased and hurried Asfordby and at times played some neat passing football.
It's clear we are missing a cutting edge up front and creating chances is an issue, therefore it's important we keep it tight at the back and it was a shame we conceded the 1st bang on half time when Dean Copson opened the scoring.
AFC 1-0 EFC 44 mins
AFC 1-0 EFC HT
We started the 2nd half well and caught Asfordby cold but could not turn our possession into clear cut chances and you sensed it was going to be one of those days until Jake Mcloughlin on 60 mins picked up the ball on the half-way line, looked up and lobbed the goalkeeper. A goal of the decade contender and look out for the video of the goal on social media.
AFC 1-1 EFC 60 mins
At this point, you sensed Ellistown could win this but a quality finish by Ashfordby's Mike Hendey proved otherwise.
AFC 2-1 EFC 65 mins
The goal knocked the stuffing out of town but we continued to battle with our man of the match Aaron Windram chasing every ball and unfortunate not to score a couple of goals.
Asfordby put the cherry on top of an impressive performance with late goals through Marcus Rowland (80 mins), John Love (85 mins) and a second for Dean Copson on 86 mins.
The final whistle went with a final score of
Asfordby 5 Ellistown 1
Many thanks to Asfordby for ensuring the game went ahead today and congratulations on the victory.
For Ellistown, we need to regroup and go again next week v GNG.
