Today reality reared its head to confirm how far Ellistown are away from where we want them to be. After a bright 20 mins when we matched a compact, neat Rugby side, we fell apart to concede six goals in 25 mins. It was clear fitness played a part as our legs went after the 1st goal.
It could have different as only a brilliant save from Rugby's Josh Hughs stopped George Wesley from equalising. Football is a cruel game as 90 seconds later, Rugby scored the 2nd.
For the record, Rugby scored their goals on 20, 25, 30,36, 43 and 45 mins with Matthew Shipman bagging a hat-trick and Dale Linton, Jamie Tank and Alex Webb getting their names up in lights.
RB 6-0 EFC HT
With the Ellistown faithful fearing a double digit defeat, it was reassuring to see Rugby declaring at half-time and the 2nd half was played at training pace with Town having more of the play. Rugby put the cherry on the cake through Jay Lawes on 86 mins with a daisy cutter that nestled in our net.
