Ellistown FC left Quorn FC with their 1st 3 points of the season with an old style professional performance that ultimately caused Pro Chance to lose composure, discipline, and the game.
With both teams looking for their 1st win of the season and Ellistown having done their homework, this game always had an edge to it.
For the 1st 20 mins, Pro Chance played like a premiership under 18 team who had been schooled in the right way as Town could either not get near them or were not prepared to put in a challenge against a team made up of 16-18 year olds.
The football Pro Chance played during this period was top notch and they should have been more than a 10 minute opener from Sunni Nichols in front.
PC 1-0 EFC 10 mins
The fact we were only 1-0 down was due to world class saves from Keenan Tailby and poor finishing.
The game changed on 20 mins when a fair Pro Chance crunching challenge woke our team up to the fact, we are not playing kids, we are playing a team suited to Senior League Football. At this point the game changed as Town went toe to toe and started to dictate the play. We were never going to out play Pro Chance, but we knew we had the streetwise knowledge to exploit their weak spot, discipline.
We got back into it on 35 mins when Captain, Leader and Legend Chris Nettel equalised with a 30 yarder that squeezed under the keeper.
PC 1-1 EFC 35 mins
You could see the confidence being sucked out the Pro Chance team as they realised they were in a game. That confidence was removed 3 minutes later when our player of the season Haydn Brown broke from the half-way line and coolly finished.
PC 1-2 EFC 38 mins
It was key we held the lead until half-time and credit to full back Ashley Riddell who was impressed he had been given the nickname Phil Mitchell by the young home following. I suspect the Ref was not impressed, by the nickname given to him by the same following.
This was a cracking game of football with an atmosphere to match as both set of fans backed their team.
Half time whistle went with Ellistown on top and in the lead.
PC 1-2 EFC HT
We were expecting a 2nd half backlash, but Pro Chance struggled to get the passing game going and were unable to cope with our physical advantage and with excellent coaching from Martin Wesley and superb defending, we frustrated the home team who were looking for someone to take that frustration out on.
Our game plan of soaking pressure and hitting Pro Chance on the break was working as we had enough changes to put this game to bed long before Haydn Brown scored the match winning goal on 90 mins.
PC 1-3 EFC 90 mins
Every player in yellow played their best game of the season and deserved credit. This was a real team effort as in football terms, we done a job on the home team.
We celebrated the final whistle like we had won the Champions League as we knew we had beaten a fine team and after some tough results you could see the pressure being lifted.
Credit to the team who post final whistle had the experience to stay out of what followed next that meant a late night for the ref who had a large match report to compile and send into the league.
Proud of the lads tonight, we faced in effect a Professional League under 18 side who can play football and if they can keep on learning will move on to bigger and better things.
This result has been coming and we look forward to visiting Sileby on Saturday in good shape.
