We put the Premier League to shame.

We will start this match report with some shout outs. Shout out to the volunteers behind Magna 73 whose hospitality was 1st class.

Shout out to both sides who put the Premier League to shame by turning out in freezing conditions to put on a classic game of football. No tactical postponements in our league.

A big shout out to Jacob Stevenson who volunteered to go in goal after we were left with no keepers through several reasons.

In a game that Ellistown largely controlled, Magna would not give up and kept on coming, therefore it was a nervous bench and away following who watched Town spurn chance after chance after chance.

Finally, on 27th mins, Aaron Windram took one of those chances as he slotted in from close range.

Magna 73 0-1 EFC 27 mins

The goal broke Magna as Ben Warren doubled the lead on 29 mins when he converted a cross from man of match Ollie Coe.

Magna 73 0-2 EFC 29 mins

With town dictating play and keeping Magna at bay, it was a pleasure to watch the away team passing their way to creating chances. It’s a famous saying but on another day, we could have been 6-7 up before Magna clawed themselves back into the game on 43 mins through Sam Slater's 25 yard thunderbolt.

Magna 73 1-2 EFC 43 mins

The goal gave Magna a lift and Town were content to play out the remaining couple of mins before half-time.

Magna 73 1-2 EFC HT

With the away following taking advantage of the 1st class hospitality at half-time and agreeing with the home fans that it’s going to be a tough 2nd half; it was no surprise that Magna started the 2nd half on the front foot.

Credit to the management team as they saw the change and tweaked our set-up to meet the challenge. The tweaks worked and we went further ahead on 55 mins when Owen Brader scored the crucial 3rd with a 20 yarder that gave the Magna keeper no chance.

Magna 73 1-3 EFC 55 mins

While Magna had sniffs at goal, our back line was first class with Adam Poxon excellent at bring the ball out of defense, aided by the shall not get past attitude from Ashly Riddell, Chris Nettle and James Warren.

Our midfield was winning all the battles and the front 3 were ready to gobble up any chance that came along.

We were content to see the game out at 3-1. The only problem with that approach is if the opposing team score then panic sets in and that's exactly what happened on 85 mins when Pearce Fox brought Magna back into it through a direct free-kick.

Magna 73 2-3 EFC 85 mins

Credit to town we dealt with everything Magna threw at us in the last 5 mins and stand-in keeper Jacob Stevenson was excellent as he dealt with a number of balls pumped in the box.

The final whistle went with Town collecting the 3 pts knowing they had been in a battle with a decent Magna side.

Magna 73 2-3 EFC FT

A good win for Town who since going 4-1 down v Desford have found their form. In reality the game should have been more comfortable, and credit goes to Magna who fought for 90 mins and made sure Town had to work for the victory.

Many thanks to everyone at Magna who ensured our players and backroom staff were looked before, during and after the game. You’re a credit to the league.
