Oldham 3rds travelled away to Preston Grasshoppers this week for a league game that was always going to be tough.
A very depleted Oldham team took to the pitch and played their hearts out against a well drilled Preston team. Oldham where forced back from the start while players got to grips with playing in positions which were new to them, and Preston inevitably scored a couple of early tries, but Oldham were to be dogged in defence and with superb tackling from both backs and forwards and superb skills and strength from the pack kept Oldham from being disgraced.
Man for man Oldham gave their all and, new players like Carl Gemmell were inspiring with their effort. Keith Chaddwick at front row gave a good account of himself as did Phil Walmsley at number 8.
An exceptional performance from a scratch 3rd team was a great effort, but unfortunately the result of the game was a loss for the 3rds.
Final Score Preston GH 29 v Oldham 0
So many of the Oldham players deserved the accolade of man of the match but Phil Walmsley was the winner.
