This game was played on an extremely wide pitch but the general conditions underfoot and overhead made for an excellent game of rugby.
Due to horrible traffic on the East Lancs the Oldham side had only the briefest of warm ups before the game kicked off. This didn't seem to make much difference for the Manor Park side and they raced into a 12 - 0 lead after 6 minutes due to a well worked forwards penalty try and a try to Aaron Jimenez, making his debut. Converted by Pete Hilton.
Great credit then goes to Ormskirk who managed to regain a measure of stability after this ferocious start to the game. The remainder of the match saw Ormskirk establish a lead and preserve it to the final whistle.
Oldham did score one more try though through Martin Hamer but it was never quite enough.
The final scoreline 22-17 reflects what a close and exciting encounter this was and the Oldham side deserves a "pat on the back", for producing such a gutsy performance away from home.
