Oldham 3rds had seen their best successes this season in the Cup competition, and this weekends Quarter Final was away to Tyldesley. After the testing Winter conditions of the last few games, this game was played in fine weather with some sun and a light wind, and on a good surface.
Oldham started the game well. Making good use of their possession they put Tyldesley under pressure. When Tyldesley came back at Oldham they defended well, and every player put in their tackles and supported their team mates well. Oldham struggled in the scrum though, being repeatedly pushed back by Tyldesley's strong pack, and always under pressure. However Oldham were the first to score. They were awarded a penalty in Tyldesley's twenty two, and after electing to kick for goal, the three points were secured by Chris Brown. Oldham then followed this up with a period of sustained pressure, at the end of which Jordan McEwan ran down the blind side off the back of a maul and scored in the corner.
At eight points up, Oldham had the semi final in site, but still had a great deal of work to do against a very capable Tyldesley side. In the second half, the game swung Tyldesley's way. Oldham continued to defend strongly, but Tyldesley repeatedly found the gaps. They started to tally up tries on the scoreboard and also had good success rate with the conversions.
The final score was Tyldesley 2nds 23 v Oldham 3rds 8, with Oldham going out of the Cup.
Man of the Match went to Chris Brown after defending well and putting in some good runs in the second half.
