Oldham u16s entertained Eccles at Manor Park in what was hoped to be a close match, Oldham having shown some good performances in the previous games despite losing.
Unfortunately Eccles were a very big and well drilled side and attacked the Oldham defence straight from the off and scored their first try within a few minutes. Rather than the normal positive response from the home team there seemed to be a bit of negative attitude creeping into the Oldham team and they were always up against it with the constant attacks from Eccles.
Despite the odd foray into the Eccles 22 Oldham never really threatened to score and the Eccles defence stood solid when tested.
Several more trys scored in the first half put the game out of Oldham’s reach and the second half continued in the same way.
Final score Oldham u16 0 v Eccles u16 79
A few players on the Oldham team tried to raise the sides game but overall this wasn’t the sort of performance that these lads can be proud of. There’s a lot of room for improvement and they will be tested again this coming Sunday away against Tarleton in the first of their Blacksticks Competitive matches.
