Oldham u13s bow out of Blacksticks at the 1/4 final stages

On a fine Winter morning Oldham U13s made the short travel to the other side of Manchester to visit Trafford MV. The home side won the toss and de-sided to kick off to Oldham. Oldham made a number of early errors putting themselves under a lot of pressure only for some excellent defence from the likes of Harrison Green, Will Lunt, Tom Barlow and Jamie Queenan to prevent an early try. Just as Oldham started getting into the game with some big runs from prop Marshall Yates and Second Row Joel Cunniffe, Trafford turn the ball over and shifted it out wide to score the first try of the game around the 20 minute mark. Shortly after that Trafford scored again. From the resulting kick Oldham re-gathered the ball and started playing the rugby we see at training. Trafford struggled to handle the intensity Oldham were now playing with and conceded a plenty which was tapped and passed to Cunniffe who managed to shrug off a number of defenders and run in to score from 30 metres out.

Half time Score 10-5

The Second half stated how the first finished with Oldham playing some great rugby, showing off their rucking skills learned from 1st team coach John O'Grady who helped out the previous week. Debutants Bilal Hussain, Alfie Wood and Adam Hussain were playing really well and fitting in the squad as excellent newcomers. Trafford finished the stronger of the two teams scoring some fantastic break away trys, but Oldham remained strong and never let their heads go down despite the scoreline.

Final Score: Trafford MV 30 – Oldham 5

Overall, the score line didn't reflect the effort and performance put in by the boys. There was some outstanding individual performances from Cunniffe, Green, Wood, and Quenan but the man of the match had to be shared as the Coaching team couldn't pick one person so they went for Will Lunt for an excellent defence all game covering side to side making tackles, shared with Tom Barlow for putting the skills taught at training into the game and executing them perfectly.
