AFC Llwydcoed holds a significant place in my memory going back to our visit to them in September of last year. It was a match which where things were going against us when Jac took a nasty elbow and then we saw Nathan carted off to hospital.
We came through and ran out 2-1 winners. The significance is that this was the start of our marvellous unbeaten run, which saw us top the table for many weeks during the season. Included in the unbeaten run was our 5-0 Friday night victory over Llwydcoed at Penypound on 26 October.
Anything approaching this would be a very good result for us today especially with some key players missing.
I think it’s taken until now, to get over the disappointment of losing out on promotion in the final game of the season and by such a small margin.
It was made all the more harder to bear when our opponents on the day, Caerau (Ely) FC scooped the prize instead of us, and took their place in the Championship.
It was not only Caerau(Ely) who got elevated as most of the existing Welsh League Division One clubs moved up with them ,leaving the Welsh League with two divisions instead of three, and how ironic that as a former Division Two side.
We are now a Division One side, fulfilling our aim at the start of last season, but most definitely not in the manner we intended.
A new season brings new hope, and let’s hope we can go one better than last season, which was pretty good, and get over the line.
Please get behind the boys today with your vocal support and enjoy the game.
