Martin Evans, a well-known and well-liked coach at AC Hoylake, is calling time on his ties with the club.

None of us really know how we’ll take to this coaching lark, whether it’ll work out with the group of kids we need to fashion into a team, or even if our own kids will stick around – sometimes the lure of mates at other teams is too great to turn down (or Saturday morning lie-ins as they get a little older).

At AC Hoylake, we count ourselves lucky to have so many great people assisting with all areas of the club, and it’s always sad when someone has to call it a day, especially when it’s someone as popular as Martin Evans, who’ll be hanging up his coaching boots this coming weekend.

Martin is well-known and well-liked right throughout the club, and over the last decade has given the kids he’s coached some invaluable advice alongside some fantastic memories – starting nine years ago, when he and Paul Baker coached an Asteroids team that they led to both league and cup triumphs.

But the real highlight of his time with the Asteroids was undoubtedly taking the kids on a trip to Spain with Paul, Dean Walsh and Carl Porschke, on which they beat a Barcelona side 6-0.

Just imagine being a part of the team that created this scoreline..?!

When his time with the Asteroids came to an end, Martin offered to help Paul Williams run the U5 and U6 academies, and has been instrumental in teaching many young children the joys of football and guided parents into coaching for a number of years.

Academy coaching is one of the most important jobs at the club, as introducing new teams and coaches is what keeps us going every season. The commitment Martin has shown can’t be underestimated, and his are really huge boots to fill.

Martin’s last session will be on Saturday, April 27th, after which he’ll be spending more time with his family at the weekends, as well partaking in his other passions of cricket and Everton FC (coping with the ups and downs of being an Evertonian can feel like a full-time job in itself!)

Everyone at the club would like to thank Martin for all his hard work and commitment over the years – he really has been invaluable to the club – and wish him the best of luck for the future.
