Bishop Auckland scored in the first 3 minutes when they kicked through from 50 meters out. Last season the same opposition won very comfortably so this was a warning to the hosts. Acklam hit back in the 9th minute when Dylan Solberg did his amazing run and good support from Regan Shute resulted in the first try for the hosts. A well deserved try from Reece Lapin in the 14th minute moved the score to 12-3. Another try from Regan and a try from B.A. gave the half-time score of 17-12.
Acklams pace and fitness meant that the second half was about getting the ball to the fast and strong runners. They did this with Regan finishing with four tries and Charlie Watson scoring two turbo tries from 50 meters out. Bishop never gave up and they thoroughly deserved two additional tries.
This was a good but ragged performance, however it gives the coaches much to work on, i.e. slow defensive cover, not moving the ball quickly enough and reaction to the ruck situation.
James Nicolson captained the team and distributed the ball well from No. 9. There was plenty of speed and guile from Dylan, Regan and Charlie with Charlie Westgarth showing the rest of the team how to tackle. Plenty of hidden work from the likes of John Naylor, Callum Smith, Alex Lawson and Macauley Bennet. The team did really well when they lost their influential play Harvey Saul at half time.
Well done to the whole team.....you look a rugby team!!
