Whats the latest?

We are eagerly awaiting the RFU update on activities due tomorrow. This should enable us to start firming up our plans to resume sport, social and leisure activities as part of the Acklam Rugby Club family. We will publish these and once considered inform how we are able to move forward together.

It’s been a difficult and frustrating time for everyone, and we’ve been keeping a close eye on how we can resume some activities in a safe and controlled way.
Its great to have seen individuals and small groups adhering to the measures we must adhere to, maintaining their fitness & social units keeping in touch by use of video or phone calls.

Here are what we hope to achieve or clarify this week!

RUGBY SEASON: Provisional optional dates for the season starting have been given as either the 1st of September, November, or January. It is likely that leagues will be split reducing initially the amount of games played in a season and travel.

Adult Rugby: In consultation with our coaching team we hope to announce a start date for fitness training early in July. Outline how that will look and how we can get the most out of it working with the restrictions and guidance.

Age Grade Rugby: This season we have had a longer resting phase to the rugby calendar, rest physically and mentally is vital for players & coaches a like. We are now entering the time we look to increase our fitness in the build up to the season and we are keen for this to happen as soon as we can in a compliant safe and controlled way. Len Taylor will pilot a return early July which will then be rolled out to other age grade teams.

The club understands that coaches and players are impatient to get back to rugby, and until that is possible may be considering off site events. Can we please remind you that Risk Assessments are to be completed for all such activities.
In these terrible times it is more important than ever to follow Government directives and RFU guidance. Activities whether on site or off site are governed by this to ensure safety for all.

Socialising: Plans are underway to open the club house to adult members initially to enjoy meeting up. Both the RFU & the government are yet to clarify several things regarding this. We hope to be able to confirm exactly how this will look and the numbers we can accommodate as in the previous update, this will be in form of bookable opening periods with deeper cleaning implemented between these.
