Acklam 34 points v Barnard Castle 17 points
Acklam made three forced changes to the previous week’s game starting line up. However they started lively when Craig Moffat made a decisive run when receiving the ball from the Barnard Castle kick off, which resulted in a 5m scrum. Instead of taking advantage of the situation, the referee penalised Acklam for not putting the ball in straight. The referee concentrated on the ball being put into the scrum straight throughout the game which had a negative affect on the game.
The opening try came after 6 minutes when from a driving maul in mid field the backs received the ball and Liam Cochoran scored his first try of the game. Danny Ashton kicked a penalty on the 12 minute mark, then 5 minutes later inside centre Chris Walker scored an exceptionally good individual try. After 30 minutes with Acklam looking very good with ball in hand, young colt Liam Cochoran scored his second try of the game. The final try of the half came when fly half Danny Ashton snaked in to score in the corner. The half time score Acklam 27 v Barnard Castle 0.
The second half saw Barnard Castle come back into the game and after 20 minutes into the half they had pulled the score back to 27-17. In the last 10 minutes Acklam took control of the game and finished off with an excellent counter attack try which Ashley Speight scored. Final score Acklam 34 v Barnard Castle 17.
Craig Moffat had a good game at full back, sound in defence and dangerous on the counter attack. Liam Cochoran had another fine display on the wing.
Acklam deserved the win but had to work hard because of the determination of the opposition.
