Acklam 27 points v Consett 5 points
• The weather almost interfered with to-day’s game like it did for many of the local clubs; however Acklam managed to host three games at the club this afternoon.
• Acklam hosted Consett for to-day’s return game after Acklam managed a close victory at Consett earlier in the season. Consett started the game with real purpose, they played at pace and were not afraid to move the ball wide. In fact there was little to choose between the two teams during the first half. Consett opened the scoring after only four minutes when they scored an unconverted try, this was brought about by two poor attempts at trying to clear the ball, and both kicks were charged down. Acklam first points came after 17 minutes with a Danny Ashton penalty. Towards the end of the first half Acklam exerted pressure on the Consett defence which resulted in one of their players being sin binned. The resulting scrum allowed the backs to move the ball wide and Dean Roberts scored Acklam’s first try. H.T. Acklam 13 v Consett 5.
• Acklam played well in the second half with John Morgan playing with a great deal of maturity and he deservedly got the ‘man of the match’ award. Chris Paleschi played his first full game and he did well in the lineout and in open play. Two individual tries by Ben Dickenson sealed the victory in the 62nd and 76th minutes of the game. Acklam did have opportunities to score the bonus try, in fact they scored what would have been the best move of the game, but the referee judged the final pass to of been forward.
• This was an entertaining game and now we look forward to next week’s top of the table clash at Guisborough.
