After last week’s emphatic win over Ramgarhia, Acomb men 1 travelled to Halifax 2 who were on equal points as the tangerines in division 2. With their first foray, in the third minute, into the hosts circle Acomb took the lead from a Matt Dickenson penalty corner drag flick. In an even first quarter both sides had chances and a Karl Brindley aerial fell to Tom Brown who missed the ball completely with only the keeper to beat. Eventually the home sides passing found an unmarked forward who netted a tap in from close range and with 10 minutes remaining in the half the hosts struck again to take a half time advantage. The tangerines drew level with 23 minutes remaining when Anthony Daley shot rebounded off the keeper and fell to Dickenson who drove home passed a an out of position keeper from a tight angle. Shortly after disaster struck quite literally when a home forward’s reverse strike was sailing over the bar but hit defender David Bell on the eyebrow which eventually required 13 stitches at York hospital and put him out of action for the rest of the game. A player light the tangerines struggled the hosts player advantage resulted in 3 goals in the closing quarter of an hour, two from penalty corners with their 5th being the last play of the game to result in a 5-2 score line seriously affected by the accident. Brindley was nominated the tangerine player of the match.
