Acomb Men’s 1 had an early match against third place Harrogate 3 looking to continue some good but pointless form from the previous week against table toppers Leeds Adel 3. Harrogate started passing the ball about well but with Stuart Baxter standing firm in central defence their forward line had chances with some last ditch clearance. A superb diving save from a penalty corner by tangerine keeper Craig Brown pushed the ball to safety. With Carrick Blacker and James Tindall back up front they always looked dangerous on the break and halfway through the half Matt Dickenson’ drag flick penalty corner fiercely flew past the static defence to open the scoring. With Dave Richardson and Paul Wright in central midfield working hard and frequently finding the tangerine front line Harrogate’s edge on the play was reduced. After the turn round the tangerines threat was limited to only a handful of chances which the home keeper stood firm. A 10 minute break in the play due to blizzard conditions seemed to disjoint both sides but the snow on the ground soon dissipated when the sun came out and with it on their backs Harrogate became more heated and with tangerine player of the match Bob Unsworth working tirelessly on the left of defence with the cooperation of Ryan Smith kept the home side at bay. With 10 minutes remaining the tangerine dream was upset when a cross from the left failed to be intercepted and the Harrogate skipper swept home an equaliser. With time running out the home side became more exasperated as things weren’t going their way until a low tackle from Baxter was considered illegal and after some discussion was shown a green card which was upgraded to a yellow and from the resultant penalty corner Harrogate their skipper slammed in a winner to leave a 2-1 result and a downhearted tangerines.
