Acomb Men hosted third placed Harrogate 3 at Energise in Yorkshire division 2 knowing that a point or if other results went their way their division 2 status would be secured for another year. In the end the visitors won 3-1 and results elsewhere meant that with 4 games remaining the tangerines can look forward to next season. In an even first twenty minutes chances were had by both teams but it was the visitors who struck first with a good passing movement. Their second of the half was from a penalty corner after 35 minutes but it was the tangerines who struck with 5 minutes remaining when the ball rebounded from the keeper and from a very narrow angle Nick Linfoot’s fierce drive rocketed into the net. With Carl Brindley working tirelessly in midfield the tangerines started the second period on top and Tom Brown had an excellent chance but lifted over the prone keeper and wide of the goal with Matt Dickenson waiting for it to be slipped square. James Graham Brown started to become more influential in linking with the Acomb forwards who were held at bay by the secure Harrogate defence. The tangerine resolve was dented when the visitors netted from a miss moved penalty corner with ten minutes remaining but Harrogate went down to ten players for the last five minutes but couldn’t find a way to draw closer.
