Acomb Men’s 1 hosted 2nd placed and promotion winners from Yorkshire division 2 Sheffield 3 at Energise. The tangerines were first to be awarded a penalty corner after 5 minutes but a small slip up in the routine led to a fast break out by the visitors who went the length of the field and netted past keeper Craig Brown. With James Tindall leading from the front Acomb put pressure on the visitors with Stuart Baxter thinking he had equalised netting from open play only for a penalty corner to be awarded for an infringement on him before the ball had crossed the line. In the final 5 minutes of the first half the visitors doubled their lead but the tangerines took heart at the break when midfielder David Richardson neatly finished to reduce the visitor’s advantage. 5 minutes after the break Sheffield’s centre forward drove into the circle and his well placed shot went out of Brown’s reach to restore a two goal advantage. The tangerines defence held firm with Baz Whitfield and Simon Theaker breaking up the visitors attack and setting up Carl Brindley and Sam Dower in midfield to drive into the visitors defence which stood firm but in the closing minute Sheffield struck for a fourth time to leave the tangerines in 10th place at their season end.
