Acomb Men’s 2 played their last game of the season when they travelled the short distance across York to take on local rivals City Of York 8 within the first few minutes city of York had a chance on goal but the tangerines keeper Richard Crossland made a fine double save. In the 15th minute the tangerines opened the scoring with a reverse stick shot by Matt Dickenson but 2 minutes later City Of York were awarded a penalty corner which after a visiting stick had deflected the ball to a York player who netted from close range. In the 20th minute York had a player green carded and from the resultant a penalty corner Paul Kellett’s shot was blocked by a York player’s body on the line. Tom Brown took the penalty stroke and scored into the top left corner. Within 3 minutes the scores were again level when York scored from a penalty corner routine only for Dickenson to drive in from a narrow angle. York took control of the second half levelling for the third time after 9 minutes York from a penalty corner. The tangerine defence stood firm with Phill Monk, David Brown, Andrew Jarman and Kellet working hard and Crossland secure in goal. In an open final minutes both sides had chances with tangerine skipper Jonny Brown being denied on a one on one. With 5 minutes remaining York had an excellent chance to take all three points but were denied when Crossland saved a penalty stroke following Kellet’s body being struck on the goal line. The final whistle blew and the game ended 3-3 leaving York and Acomb in fourth and fifth place respectively in division 5 north.
