Acomb ladies meet Pockington at York University for a rearranged fixture due to snow two weeks earlier. In an even first half it was the home side who struck in the 28th minute in open play past tangerine keeper Steph Barker. The second half saw a magic 5 minute spell which saw Acomb score three times. The first by skipper Kerry Woods following a fine run, the second again from a Woods penalty stroke when Hannah Yowards shot hit a defenders foot on the line and a third when Vicky Wrigley’s amazing run into the circle saw her net from an narrow angle. With Jane Elsworth, Sam Storr, Becci Flower, Eva Coulson and Emily Watson defending valiantly for the tangerines they kept Pocklington at bay for 15 minutes until they broke free and worked the ball past Barker to narrow the gap. With Jessica Slater and returning Sue Yoward keeping control of midfield the tangerines doubled the lead when skipper Woods netted her hat trick from a penalty corner flick with 15 minutes remaining, Pocklington thought they had pulled a goal back when the second strike from a penalty corner flew past a tangerine defender at close range high into the net and they finished the stronger but couldn’t get the needed two goals to leave the tangerines 4-2 winners and third place in division 1 just one point behind Halifax 2 to miss out on promotion for the second year running.
