An outstanding goal by Luke Tan in the 87th minute proved to be a fitting winning goal that secured the Championship Play-Off for the Young Rams.

But it was West Division Champions Balham FC who took the lead in the 10th minute. A looping header found its way in off the post after the game had opened with both sides looking to settle quickest. The lead only lasted two minutes before Luke Tan fired the ball into the net from outside the area having made space for himself. On 19 minutes the Young Rams were ahead with Raoul Camara showing great pace and finishing low and hard.

Balham were not going to take this lying down and the last 20 minutes of the first half saw them in ascendency. They certainly could have squared the scoreline but couldn't apply the finishing touch. The Rams went into the break leading by the odd goal after an excellent opening period.

The second half saw the game continue at a brisk pace with both sides having chances. Breathing space was given to the Rams when Ryan Hill picked the ball up inside the area and turned and fired home giving the goalkeeper no chance. It looked like it would be enough but Balham weren't to be put off and continued to threaten but with the clock ticking. Then on 83 minutes they had pulled one back and were rushing to get the game restarted. A goal at the near post made it 3-2.

A tense and nervous last few minutes seemed on the cards but that was before Luke Tan scored the goal of the game. A long pass in behind the Balham defense was controlled perfectly and he finished with aplomb. It was the sort of goal that you wanted on tape as words do not do it justice. Having restored the 2 goal lead that felt like enough to secure the win and that is what it proved to be.

It was a fine game between two very good teams. Balham, who won this trophy last season, made for an excellent game that was played in a fine spirit that was a credit to both players and management alike. It was a fitting climax to the season.
