The Biggin welcomed Chester-le-Street Town to Holcim Park yesterday. A team they scored 5 against only a few weeks ago. The pitch was looking green in the late summer sun.
There was a gusty wind which spoilt the first half. Although both sides persisted in hitting the ball skywards. No one challenged either keeper and it was looked like it was going to be a dreaded 0-0. However Newbiggin, started to create chances and eventually got onto the score sheet on 43 minutes with a messy goal, which some claim was an OG others that new signing 'Eggy' Sherrard got his foot to it. Either way it meant we would go in at half time in the lead. But Keros managed to get on the scoresheet 3 minutes into injury time, meaning we went in 2-0 at half time.
Not sure what was said at half time in either dressing room, but the visitors came out and by 61 minutes were on level terms and manager Wilson was understandably angry and began using his experienced substitutes.
Some great play by Elliott saw him beat the keeper and in knock in our third and did his usual celebrations only for the linesman to get the Refs attention. After a lengthy chat it was decided to disallowed the goal for offside to the crowds and player's disappointment. Wilson then began ranting at the ref wanting an explanation which in the end meant that Wilson was yellow carded.
However the hard working Keros eventually got our third with an easy tap in. Then the substitute Smith who has had a disappointing start goalwise, got on the scoresheet with a well taken goal and you could see the delight as well as relief on his face.
The game ended 4-2 to the home side. To the relief of manager Si Wilson.
Matty Bowles who was all over the pitch and deserved his mom nomination.
