?️ SMITHY SPEAKS

This interview we sat down with Smithy and discussed his transition to the club, his form and the community.

You’ve had a great start to the season with eight goals & two man of the matches, is this the impact you thought you’d have made from the start of the season?

“Yeah, I definitely believed I could make an impact from the start. I came in with confidence, knowing the quality of the squad around me would create chances, and thankfully I’ve been able to take them. Scoring goals and picking up a couple of Man of the Match awards is a great start, but there’s still a long way to go. I’m hungry to keep improving and help the team push on”

Your most memorable moment was the winner against Boldon Colliery in injury time, what are your other moments so far this season?

“Yeah, the injury-time winner against Boldon Colliery was definitely a special moment — one of those you don’t forget. But there have been a few others that stand out too. My first goal for the club was a big one personally and especially when it was the first one for the club in the northern league, it helped just to get off the mark and settle in. Also, the game where I got my first Man of the Match – it gave me a lot of confidence knowing I was making a real impact. Every match has had its moments, but those ones definitely stick with me so far”

How have you settled into the team in regards to the staff and players since your move from Bedlington?

“I’ve settled in really well since making the move from Bedlington. The lads have been brilliant with me from day one, and the staff have made it easy to feel part of the club straight away. There’s a real togetherness here, and that’s helped me hit the ground running. I already feel like a big part of the group, and I’m really enjoying my football at Newbiggin.”

How important is it for the fans and community to get involved with the club and supporting yourselves on match days?

“It’s massive. The support from the fans and the local community really gives us a lift, especially on match days. Knowing people are behind us pushes the team to give that extra bit of effort. Football’s not just about what happens on the pitch — it’s about bringing people together, and when the community gets involved, it creates a proper buzz around the club. Hopefully, we can keep putting in performances that make them proud and keep growing that connection”.
