Help the fundraising effort of teenager who battled back from being paralysed to do charity walk

Royals fans can boost the fundraising efforts of a teenager who not only battled back from being paralysed but then took on a 6km fundraising walk.

Isobella Wren suddenly collapsed while working at a care home which resulted in her being paralysed in her body from the waist down.

The 18-year-old then spent four months in Southampton General Hospital while medical staff carried out a whole host of tests and treatments to try to work out what had happened to her.

In that time Isobella underwent multiple brain scans, spinal taps, blood plasma treatment, had steroid medication and then undertook physiotherapy sessions to teach her how to walk again.

The diagnosis from the doctors was that she had a rare neurological condition called Transverse Myelitis - this condition sees blood cells attack the patient’s own brain and immune system and without medication this can cause adverse effects.

But once the medical team had got to the bottom of what was effecting Isobella and the best way to treat it, she has shown a brave determination to not only get back on her feet again but then give the ultimate display of her recovery powers.

She completed a 6km walk to raise funds for the Transverse Myelitis Society - a group of volunteers who provide support for people diagnosed with the condition, which they say only effects three to four people in every million patients seen.

Isobella is the daughter of Sean Wren - a director at Castles Estate Agents in Portchester, who are sponsors of AFC Portchester.

Sean said: “I’m reaching out to you all to appeal to your kind nature to see if you would be willing to donate a small amount of money in support of my daughter.

“After four months of multiple brain scans, spinal taps, blood plasma treatment, steroids and physiotherapy to teach her how to walk again she finally turned a corner.

“She was diagnosed with a form of multiple sclerosis and Transverse Myelitis and as a result of the findings she’s been very determined to try and get back on track asap and has shown immense bravery and determination.

“I would be grateful for any support or donations that could be made to her JustGiving page as a sign of solidarity and support.

“We are in a tough financial climate right now but any donations large or small will be amazing.”

Isobella has already smashed through her initial fundraising target of £500 and the current total stands at over £2,600.
