The footballing community of Portsmouth is to come together to remember Mason Peddle.

A fundraising match in his memory is to be held at AFC Portchester on Friday, May 12.

Mason’s team mates in the under-23s side he captained will play in an AFC Portchester Select XI, which will be managed by under-23s boss Mark Dugan on the night.

The Royals’ Select side could also include players from the first team squad - many of whom knew Mason.

The opposition in the game will be provided by a mixed team made up of players from Baffins Milton Rovers and Moneyfields.

The event will provide people with an opportunity to come together to remember Mason, following the sad news of his passing on Monday.

The footballing community has already shown its support in a big way - over £28,000 has been donated now to an online appeal to raise funds to support Mason’s family and cover funeral costs.

Now people can come together for the game at The OnSite Group Stadium to remember Mason and all proceeds from the game will be split between Mason’s family and the Portsmouth branch of the Samaritans.

Portsmouth Samaritans help people who are suicidal or in emotional distress by giving them a safe place to talk through whatever is troubling them, by phone and email.

Callers can talk for as long as they want, at any time of day or night.  It’s confidential, and Samaritans never judge or criticise their callers. They can be contacted 24/7 for free at 116 123 or jo@samaritans.org

Portsmouth Samaritans currently have about 120 volunteers, and last month answered 1,526 calls for help.

They always welcome new volunteers, so that they can answer more calls. Their volunteers are well trained, mentored and supported.

The branch has been helping people for just over 60 years, and has been able to do this because of the support and generosity of local people. They are grateful to all those who have supported them.

Portsmouth Samaritans would like to thank AFC Portchester and their supporters for their generosity.

Tickets for the match cost £10 each and under-18s will get in for free. The game is scheduled to kick-off at 7.30pm.
