Fans full of praise for Royals' performance in AFC Totton win

Delving into social media is usually a bit like opening the hurt locker where everyone tells you how bad you are but on occasion - like following the 2-0 win over Southern League visitors AFC Totton – it sometimes produces some posts worth reading.
 
And Portchester fans were certainly ‘feline’ good about Tuesday night’s performance – one described it as “absolute class” and another Royals follower said the football his side played was “some of the best I’ve seen in many years at Portchester.”
 
The wins keep coming – this one was number eight in nine games played in all competitions so far this season – and the performances keep getting better with every game at the moment.

Those in attendance were impressed by Portchester’s performance on the night and Totton’s visiting radio commentary team believed the Royals would not look out of place in the Southern League.

The opening exchanges of the first half were fairly even with both sides trying to take control of the game. Both created half chances but nothing that put either goal under serious threat.

However, as the first half continued the home side became the more dominant one and they put Totton’s goal under serious threat in the final five minutes of the half.

The Royals hit the post and had strong penalty claims waved away before they took the lead on 44 minutes.

Ryan Pennery picked up the ball on the left hand side of the penalty area and twisted and turned his way past his marker. He then sent an inch-perfect cross to the far post on to Harry Beckley’s head and he nodded the ball home.

Portchester continued to remain well on top in the second half and they doubled their advantage on 53 minutes. Good play down the left wing saw the ball crossed into the box and Liam Robinson got across his marker to glance his header home inside the near post from eight yards out.

The Royals didn’t let up after that. Beckley and Pennery both tried their luck on goal with further chances and Williamson headed over from a corner.

Jake Raine’s curling effort went narrowly wide of the target and the visitors were unable to find a way back into the game.
