Southern Region Women's League
Sunday 5th November
AFC Portchester 5
Havant & Waterlooville 0
After a couple of weeks without a game, and with the weather limiting training it was good to see the team back at the Onsite Group Stadium in league action against our local rivals.
The game started evenly with both teams probing and trying to work out each other out, and playing some good football on a pitch thankfully playable after the storms of the week. The breakthrough came after good work from Charmaine True saw MILLIE BRADBURY pop up at the back post to make it 1-0.
The goal gave the group a lift and seemed to shake off any lack of game time and it wasn't long before MILLIE BRADBURY got her second of the game picking up a loose ball and finishing well from the edge of the box 2-0 and that's how it remained until half time.
HT 2-0
The ladies came out for the second half with a spring in the step and three with CHARMAINE TRUE stepping up from the spot and calming sending the impressive visiting keeper the wrong way 3-0.
At 3-0 we might have been forgiven for thinking the game was over but H&W kept us honest and caused problems. With both teams probing, up stepped SOPHIE BELL to cut out a cross field ball and hit a shoot from distance giving the keeper no chance 4-0.
The fifth came shortly after with this time captain EILIDH CURRIE using her strength to get on the end of a through ball a calmly slot her slot into far left hand corner 5-0.
That signalled the end of the goalscoring and a positive return to action for the ladies, albeit we did lose Hannah Walker to nasty looking unchallenged ankle injury so we hope for good news on that front.
FT 5-0
Next up its the FA Cup for us and to go again in this famous competition away at Bromley in the first round proper.
POTM: Sara Hinton, Sophie Bell, Ella Wilson all had great games and all making firm claims for a starting position next week.
