On a cold and wet Monday night we faced an inform Arundel team with a weakened squad missing Keehan, Stephenson, Farmer and Waterman so we knew this would be a difficult game as Arundel are a strong young outfit. However, we have strength in depth as had been proved in previous matches so we thought if we could apply ourselves there was no reason why we couldn't get a result.
The first 20 minutes saw us dominate the match go 1-0 up through a Lol Edward's free kick and nearly increase the lead with a very close effort from Fordy. Certainly the mood in our dug out was better than Arundel's as we passed quickly and were creating chances. Football can turn on one moment and this proved the case in the first half. In fact two moments from the same player. Arundel hadn't had a serious attack in the first 25 minutes until the ball fell to Liam Brady, who like his namesake from yesteryear, looked up from 40 yards out assessed the situation and hit a worldy over Bradder's into the goal. A sublime goal. So as not to prove it was a fluke the same player then did it again from 35 yards out. 2-1 at half time.
You could sense the tide had turned in the match and so it proved as the more energetic and hard working Arundel side applied pressure but it wasn't until the 75th minute that sub Steve Sedgley finished and then Callum Chambers danced around a few of our players to make it 4-1 in the 79th minute. The perhaps over celebrated at the end which we take as a compliment and we look forward to the return match at their place.
