The 2s are off the mark with a win in the first game of the season.

A comfortable win at home against a depleted Preston Grasshoppers side.
The 2s begin their season back in Division 2 North after 2 seasons in the South Division against unknown opposition Preston Grasshoppers 3s.
The day did not start well for the visitors with the captain and two more players stuck in traffic missing the opening 20 minutes of the game and as the afternoon developed things did not improve for them. With the first attack of the game stand off Andy Coxhill
released centre James Nurney
who powered through the defense from 35 meters out to score under the posts. Conversion added by Andy Coxhill
set the stall out for the rest of the game.Soon after the restart a set piece in the middle of the field saw number 8 Matt Baker
link with 9 Andy Garton
who set full back Joe Worthington
away to touch down in the corner. The visitors then began to settle with a 10 minute spell of possession and territory in the Aldwinians 22 but could not convert this into points.Further scores in the first period included a snipe over the line from Andy Garton
, prop Sam Nicholson
barging over from 2 metres and second row Rhys Glover
trundling over the whitewash to keep the scoreboard ticking over at a point a minute. With 20 minutes gone the missing Preston Posse arrived allowing flanker Ben Pugh
and winger Jack Nicholson
to take to the field with both teams now at full strength. The pattern of play did not change with the visitors under continuous pressure only relieved by Aldwinians indiscipline at the breakdown and dogged defense.
At the interval with the score heavily in the home sides favour the result was never in any doubt.Injuries to Preston players did not help their cause reducing their numbers as the tries continued to stack up with Matt Baker
bagging a second half hat trick.
All credit to the visitors showing great character seeing the game through to the end.
No fixture for the squad next week but Littleborough are the visitors on the 22nd September along with both clubs 1st XV at Aldwinians on the same date.
