Alloa U16

Alloa U16 kick started their season with a winning away game at local neighbours Grangemouth after a previous week call off from Crieff. Alloa took a squad of 19 through and on perfect playing conditions opened the scoring through No.8 Bruce Black storming through after numerous pick and goes from the forwards. Aaron Bremner at outside centre was next to score under the posts after a great burst through Grangemouth defence. Some pressure deep in the Alloa half from Grangemouth resulted in a loose ball being picked up by prop Keenan MacDonald who ran 70m only to be tackled near the line which then allowed scrum half Mitchell Guild to dot ove for an easy score. Adam Bell playing at opens side flanker, who had chased down every ball scored a well deserved try to end a one sided first half for Alloa
A few changes from Grangemouth and some slack play from Alloa allowed Grangemouth back into the game with them scoring 3 tries without reply. Grangemouth big No.8 was being used on every occasion but excellent double tackling from stand off Yannis Clark and captain Lachlan McMaster ensured he was nullified and never scored. Findlay Currie ensured Alloa were going to win by first making a great tackle to get the ball back and then after great work from backs and forwards resulted in Findlay bursting through to score and Mitchell Guild then landed his 5th conversion of the day. Grangemouth got a 4th try but good chasing back kept the ball out wide to end Alloa as victors 40 points to 22. This young Alloa side has great potential and will learn from this outing that the game is played over 2 halves. Debutants in Jamie Shaw and Isaac Johnstone should be proud of their efforts in the backs and with 5 players unavailable Alloa has great competition for a starting line up.
