It is with the deepest sadness that we have learnt of the sudden death of Sabelo Sam. The South African was only at Alloa for 7 months, but in that time he made a real impact both on and off the field.
I vividly remember picking Sam up from the airport in September 2015 and feeling slightly nervous that this young lad might find his time with us as something of a culture shock. I needn't have worried, as the club welcomed him with open arms and he fully immersed himself in the ARFC family.
His aggression on the pitch was in contrast to his off field demeanour as he was one of the most pleasant, well mannered young men that you could meet and was a credit to his family.
I know that Sam was deeply proud to have made so many friends in his short time with us and he was also extremely grateful for the kindness shown to him by everyone at Alloa RFC, which is something that we should also be proud of as a club as we were instrumental in making so many happy memories for him.
Our thoughts go out to his family and friends in South Africa - May you rest in Peace, Mandlenkosi Sabelo Sam.
