U14s get back to Winning Ways!

After a run of frustrating results U14s got back on the winning track today. A long kick off by Burn put Pont under pressure and some good work from forwards saw the midfield get some 'whiteline fever' forgetting they had outside players the line went begging twice. Last weeks lineout practice saw McCaig hitting Harrison well and Hill on the carry making good yards with Capt Allen. Recent rucking practice was also showing as good ball was popping out like a pea for scrum half Sutherland. Backs moved the ball well twice but winger JP fumbled unluckily. Pont defended well and kept the BluenGold out...was it going to be another one of those days?? The home side started to use their bulk up the middle but Alnwick's back row had other ideas. the 'Wooler Warriors' Balmbro and Allen, 'Thropton Tiger' Henry and 'Foxton Ferocity' Ellis tackled like demons and a turnover saw centre Spark open the throttle on the outside for first score, Burn converted. Pont came back straight away but Fahy's tackle and good forwards counter rucking let Sutherland release the backs and Spark was off again through defences for a second try. Inglis was starting to make some deep inroads supported by O Scott S Cameron and O Pitcher. Armstrong appeared from the Sedburgh fells to add some tenacity. Miller at full back was also coming into the line nicely and getting the pass away. Whitely and Blackburn came into the fray and the forwards bundled up to the line for Ellis to score from the ruck.Burn got straight into second half with a solo run and try in corner. Brunger came on at fullback and immediately made an important tackle. Inglis made another break and Burn was released for his second try which he converted. Alnwick were in top gear in the last quarter and produced the try of the season so far by the Hipsburn quartet -. Harrison picked from the scrum and took off like a mad giraffe on the charge with a sidestep, to Douglas to Ellis to winger JP scoring a fantastic try in the corner - First half fumbles completely forgotten he claimed his scrum cap had now kept his hair out his eyes!
A great finish to a good performance. Lets aim to keep to winning ways nest week and carry on where we left off. Well played all.
