Playing away at run-away leaders Tongham, the Brewers knew that they had to pull out a performance and pick up points. After losing the toss and being asked to bat, Alton were soon in trouble with Tom Porter bowling tight lines and between him, Lunn and Foot Alton were quickly reduced to 30/3. After a successful tour Alex Freeman (109) then remembered he can actually bat and got his head down to build a much-needed innings for the Brewers. He was ably supported by Steve Ball (19) big hitting Sebi Bramah (32) and Ethan (16). Abi Green and Adrian Trim topped up the score with some scrambled singles at the end to help the Brewers post 210/7 declared off 43 overs.
Alton came out firing in the 2nd innings with Abi and Ethan leading the charge. Abi bowled great lines and eventually caused Graham to play onto his stumps. Jon Porter (8-0-26-2) then took up the mantle and tempted first Foot (11) and then Spittles (13) into edges to 1st slip – both claimed by Steve Ball. Trim Snr joined the action (9-0-26-2) before switching ends allowing Abi to bowl her second spell at the tail. The Brewers were always in control of the run rate victory – it was all about whether an outright victory could be achieved. When Steve Ball made his final diving grab off the last ball, albeit unsuccessfully, it was just too little too late – although a 14-8 victory against the league leaders was a great result.
